Stress and burnout counseling for when you're running on empty
If 'I'm fine' has been doing a lot of heavy lifting lately, this is a place to set it down. You don't have to wait for a breaking point. Stress and burnout are reason enough to reach out.
In person in Oak Lawn, IL & Marietta, GA · Telehealth across Illinois, Georgia & Florida

Stress is your body and mind responding to what life is asking of you. Burnout is what can happen when that demand keeps going and recovery never quite arrives. You may notice it as exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix, a shorter fuse with the people you love, dread on Sunday nights, headaches or a tight jaw, or a sense of going through the motions at work and at home.
At Growth & Guidance, we look at stress through a mind-body lens. Our founder, Jalinia Logan, LCSW, CCATP, worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse before becoming a therapist, and that background shapes how our practice works. We pay attention to what your thoughts are doing, what your body is carrying, and what your days are actually asking of you.
Counseling for stress and burnout is not about learning to tolerate more. It's about understanding what is draining you, protecting what restores you, and building habits and boundaries you can actually keep.
How we help
Our clinicians draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, solution-focused work, and mindfulness-based tools. Your therapist matches the approach to you, not the other way around.
- Sorting your load: what is yours to carry, what is circumstance, and what can be shared
- CBT tools for 'I have to do it all' and 'I can't say no' thinking
- Boundary work for job, family, and caregiving roles, without guilt scripts
- Mindfulness and grounding tied to the ways stress shows up in your body
- Coping skills and self-care routines small enough to keep
- With your written consent, coordination with your other providers

Signs stress may be turning into burnout
Everyone has hard weeks. Burnout tends to feel different because it lingers. These are general signs worth paying attention to, not a diagnosis:
- You feel tired before the day starts, even after rest
- Things you used to care about feel flat or pointless
- You're more irritable, cynical, or numb than usual
- Your body is showing it through headaches, stomach trouble, tension, or poor sleep
- Small tasks feel heavy, and you put off things that used to be easy
- You keep saying you're fine because explaining feels like one more task
Why the mind-body piece matters
Stress often shows up physically before we name it. Tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, sleep that never feels like rest. When we work on stress, we work on both sides: the thoughts that keep the pressure on, and a body that has been bracing for too long.
Rest is part of that work, not a reward for finishing it. A rested nervous system has more patience, makes clearer decisions, and holds more room for the people you love. Our behavioral health services add psychoeducation and practical coping skills for how stress affects your physical health.
Support that fits a full life
When you're burned out, adding one more appointment can feel impossible. That's part of why we offer telehealth across Illinois, Georgia, and Florida, along with in-person sessions in Oak Lawn and Marietta and office hours until 8:00 PM Monday through Thursday. If talking with others who understand would help, group counseling around anxiety and stress is another option to ask about.

Common questions
-
Do I have to be in crisis to get help with stress?
No. Therapy isn't reserved for emergencies. If stress has been running your days for weeks, or you keep telling yourself you'll deal with it later, that's a good time to talk. A free 10-minute consult is a low-pressure way to start.
-
What is the difference between stress and burnout?
Stress is usually tied to a specific demand and eases when the demand passes. Burnout tends to build when stress is constant and recovery is missing, and it can leave you feeling depleted or detached even after time off. Either one is worth addressing, and you don't have to sort out which it is before you call.
-
Can stress affect my physical health?
Stress and the body are closely connected, which is why we take a mind-body approach. If you're noticing physical symptoms, we encourage you to check in with your medical provider as well. With your written consent, your therapist can coordinate care with your other providers.
-
Can I do sessions online?
Yes. We offer telehealth by secure video across Illinois, Georgia, and Florida, and in-person sessions in Oak Lawn, IL and Marietta, GA. You need to be located in one of those three states during each session.
