# Parenting support for the seasons when love isn't the hard part

Loving your kids is rarely the hard part. Knowing what to do when the meltdowns, the silence, the slammed doors, or the calls from school keep coming is. Parenting support gives you a place to think it through with someone in your corner.

Every family hits seasons where the old strategies stop working. A new sibling, a move, a divorce, a diagnosis, a new school, or the jump into the teen years can change how your child acts and how you respond. You may notice more conflict at home, more yelling than you want, or a feeling that you and your child keep missing each other.

At Growth & Guidance, parenting support shows up in several ways: in family counseling (https://growthguidancecounselingservices.com/service/family-counseling), in your child's or teen's treatment plan, and in the Parenting Support & Family Education that Anna Aranda offers. We help parents develop and implement discipline and communication strategies that fit their family, and we build parent guidance into child and teen work, so you're not left on the outside of your child's care.

The goal isn't to assign blame. It's to understand what's driving the behavior, respond in ways that are consistent and calm, and rebuild connection so the whole family can move forward together.

## How we help

Clinicians on our team who work with children, teens, and families draw on approaches such as Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, restorative practices, and play and art techniques for younger kids. For parents, that turns into practical, doable steps.

- Discipline strategies that are consistent, age-appropriate, and fit your family
- Communication tools for calmer conversations and fewer power struggles
- Understanding what your child's behavior may be telling you
- Support through separation, blended-family changes, and big transitions
- Coping skills for your own stress, so you can respond instead of react
- Parenting support and family education in English or Spanish

## When to reach out for parenting support

You don't need to wait for a crisis. It may be time to talk with someone if:

- Discipline has become a daily battle, or nothing you try seems to work
- Your child's behavior changed after a move, a loss, a divorce, or a new sibling
- You and your co-parent or partner disagree on how to respond
- School is calling about behavior, attention, or conflict with peers
- You feel guilty, exhausted, or unsure of yourself as a parent
- You want to break patterns from your own childhood instead of repeating them

## Support for every age

Kaylah Keitt sees children ages 4 and up, along with adolescents, young adults, and families, and uses play and art therapy techniques. Anna Aranda works with children, adolescents, and families and offers family therapy and parenting support. Freddie Williams has experience with children, adolescents, adults, and families in school, community mental health, psychiatric, and behavioral health (https://growthguidancecounselingservices.com/service/behavioral-health) settings, and Sabrina Fullilove brings experience supporting children and families in child welfare and mental health.

## Taking care of you, too

Parenting while stressed, grieving, or running on empty is hard on everyone. If you'd like support for yourself, individual counseling (https://growthguidancecounselingservices.com/service/individual-counseling) is available, and group counseling (https://growthguidancecounselingservices.com/service/group-counseling) offers a space to connect with others who understand. Caring for yourself is part of caring for your family, not a distraction from it.

## Who on our team works with this

These clinicians work directly with children, teens, and families. On your free consult, tell us your child's age and what's going on, and we'll match you by fit.

## Common questions

- ### Do I have to bring my child to every session?
Not necessarily. Who attends depends on your goals. Sometimes the whole family meets, sometimes a parent comes alone, and sometimes a parent and child meet together. Your therapist will help you decide.
- ### My teen won't come. Can I still get help?
Yes. Sometimes we start with a parent consult so you feel steady, and then invite your teen for a low-pressure first session. Teens are told up front what is confidential and what isn't.
- ### Do you offer parenting support in Spanish?
Yes. Anna Aranda, MSW, LSW, offers Parenting Support & Family Education along with bilingual services in English and Spanish.
- ### Will you tell me what my child says in therapy?
Parents are kept informed of anything that affects safety, along with big-picture progress, while the day-to-day content of a teen's sessions stays private so they can use the space. With younger children, parents are part of the treatment plan through check-ins and coaching.
