That mind-body view — that the person in front of you is one whole system, not a set of separate problems — shapes how we practice today. ## The mind and body speak to each other Stress shows up physically long before we name it. Tight shoulders. A jaw that clenches in traffic. Sleep that never quite feels like rest. The body keeps a running record of what the mind is carrying. The reverse is also true. Caring for the body — moving it, feeding it, resting it — supports the mind. You don't have to solve your mental health with exercise, but you also can't ignore the body and expect the mind to be steady. ## Rest is productive We were taught to earn rest. To finish first, then relax. In practice, that math almost never balances — the list never ends, so the rest never comes. Rest is not what happens after the work. It is part of the work. A rested nervous system makes better decisions, has more patience, and holds more room for the people you love. ## Small investments compound A little sleep, a little movement, a little connection, a little therapy. None of these are dramatic on any single day. Over months and years, they compound the way money in a savings account compounds — quietly, and then all at once. You don't have to do all of them at once. Pick the one you have been putting off the longest and start there. ## Asking for help is an investment, not a cost It is easy to file therapy under "expense" — one more line item, one more thing competing for the same budget. But the return on your mental health touches every other part of your life: your work, your relationships, your parenting, your body. Very few investments have that kind of reach. ## Your health is the foundation everything else is built on The career, the relationships, the goals, the family — all of it sits on top of your health. When the foundation is cared for, the rest can grow. When it is neglected, everything else eventually feels the shift. Choosing your health is not selfish.
